One of the financial supports that the Alberta Government has implemented to help Albertans affected by COVID-19 is the 90-Day Utility Payment Deferral. This program came into effect March 18, 2020 and will end June 19, 2020.
This program is intended for Albertans who are experiencing financial hardship as a direct result of COVID-19. For example, those who have lost their employment or had to leave work to take care of an ill family member. Albertans who are still able to pay their utility bills are asked to do so.
This program does not cover any costs of utility bills, it only defers your payments to June 19th. You will not be expected to pay your full balance at the end of the 90-days but you will need to work with your retailer to come up with a payment plan. During this time you will not be disconnected or put on a limiter. You will also not be charged interest on non or late payments within the 90 day period. Arrears that were in place prior to the deferral are still the responsibility of the individual member and standard recovery practices will be implemented after June 19.
